Front of House Supervisor

The Tidemark Theatre is a municipally owned facility operated by the Tidemark Theatre Society which is a non-profit society. Its mandate is to be a nationally recognized centre for the arts that contributes culturally, economically and socially to our community. The Tidemark Theatre requires a casual Front of House Supervisor for evenings, weekends, and some day shifts. The incumbent shall be responsible for the following:

General Statement of Duties:
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Front of House Supervisor shall be responsible for delivering excellent customer service to patrons of the theatre through volunteer and front of house resources.

Supervision:
The Front of House Supervisor shall be responsible for reporting to the Managing Director or appointed designate.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

Concession:

  • Reconcile concession floats and stock before and at the end of shows;
  • Monthly stock inventory in conjunction with the Accountant;
  • Research stock options and pricing at other venues in BC;
  • Actively seek new revenue generating opportunities in the concession;
  • Order liquor and stock; fill orders and coordinate delivery;
  • Responsible for coordinating recycling and laundry;
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the BC Liquor Control and Licensing Act, and ensure that all staff, volunteers, and renters are operating by these policies;
  • Work with Managing Director to develop yearly revenue and expense projections for the concession;

Volunteers:

  • Responsible for recruitment and training of new volunteers;
  • Supervise volunteers during events;
  • Track volunteer contact information, membership status, Criminal Record Checks, and Serving It Right certifications for all volunteers and follow up as necessary;
  • Liaise with the rental clients and the Rentals Coordinator to determine volunteer requirements and ensure each event is adequately staffed; communicate volunteer requirements to the volunteer base, and monitor the volunteer sign up process;
  • Coordinate Volunteer Orientations, Volunteer Appreciation Party, Christmas Party, Fire & Emergency Preparedness Training, and LCLB Training for volunteers and staff;
  • Ensure concession volunteers have valid Serving It Right certifications;
  • Develops and updates the volunteer manual;
  • Coordinates the development of the volunteer e-newsletter;
  • Serves as the staff liaison to the Volunteer Committee;
  • Works with management to coordinate volunteer driven projects around the theatre;

Events:

  • Liaise with ticket centre clerks, technical staff, tour managers, artists, and volunteers at the beginning of each event to ensure the smooth operation of all performances, including start times and intermission lengths;
  • Enforce theatre policies at all times, including implementation of Fire & Safety Emergency procedures;
  • Trouble-shoot any issues that may arise during an event or performance and document any issues;
  • Supervise and coordinate all aspect of the concession, 50:50 draws, and merchandising;

Reporting:

  • Update and file all forms (concession tracking, pre-order forms, inventory, 50/50, merchandise
    commission, volunteer handbook, volunteer contact sheet, volunteer signup sheet);
  • Work with the Accountant to accurately track concession revenue versus expenditures, and
    report this performance to management on a per show basis;
  • Prepare concession reports, time sheets, and ticket stub counts for each event;
  • Develop reports on volunteers statistics (ie. number of volunteers);

Other:

  • Represent the Tidemark Theatre Society in a professional manner, particularly when dealing with patronsc & volunteers;
  • Research, develop, and implement any front of house related operational policies as required;
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required;
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Managing Director;

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years+ customer service experience required;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledgeable in use of computers and information technology, specifically Microsoft Office
  • Excel, Word, and Outlook;
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints while maintaining theatre policies;
  • Ability to exercise courtesy, tact and diplomacy with the public;
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure;
  • Ability to liaise with technical staff about equipment requirements in the lobby;
  • Possess a demonstrated ability to organize multiple tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines and work
  • under time constraints;
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends as required;
  • Willingness to acquire a Criminal Record Check;
  • Valid First Aid level 1 certificate required;
  • Valid Serving It Right certificate required.

Classification: casual
Hours of Work: shift work, evenings and weekends
Compensation: $15.31/hour; 4% vacation pay (to be reviewed upon completion of probationary period)
Probationary Period: 3 months

The Tidemark Theatre requires a casual Front of House Supervisor for evenings, weekends, and some day shifts. The incumbent shall be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Change light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
  • Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, stripping, waxing, polishing, and buffing floors
  • Vacuuming, shampooing, steam cleaning carpets, stairs, and furniture
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms
  • Clean sinks, countertops, mirrors, bathroom fixtures
  • Restock supplies in bathrooms and common areas
  • Clean up spills
  • Clean drinking fountains, tables, walls, countertops, lights, light fixtures
  • Empty all trash cans and replace liners, clean receptacles as necessary
  • Dust and clean office desks and furniture that are not cluttered
  • Wash windowsills and windows
  • Maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized and safe manner
  • Maintain janitorial equipment in a clean, safe and operable condition
  • Proper labeling, dilution and use of all chemicals
  • Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment at all times
  • Facilitate recycling initiatives undertaken by the Tidemark Theatre Society
  • Ensure recycling and trash disposal protocols are adhered to by all staff
  • Purchase cleaning supplies as necessary
  • General maintenance of grounds
  • Pick up litter from around buildings and grounds
  • Clean snow or debris from sidewalk if required

Qualifications, Skills, & Experience:

  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Shall have the ability to deal courteously, tactfully and diplomatically with people of all ages
  • Ability to work independently and to work with others as an integral member of a team
  • Self-starter; able to take initiative and be proactive with respect to helping out on various projects in and around the theatre
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning products or willing to learn
  • Basic knowledge in use of computers, specifically email
  • Valid BC Driver's License
  • WHMIS
  • Willing to acquire a Criminal Record Check
  • Level 1 First Aid an asset
  • CPR C and AED training an asset

The Tidemark Theatre requires a casual Ticket Centre Clerk for evenings, weekends, and some day shifts. The incumbent shall be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities:

  • providing customer service
  • covering various shifts, sometimes at short notice
  • utilizing computers and technology
  • promoting events via Facebook, Twitter and other social media
  • updating the website and generating e-newsletters
  • using multiline telephones & common business machines
  • selling tickets, networking, promoting
  • shows serving as an ambassador for the theatre
  • data entry
  • cash handling/credit card procedures
  • any other duties as requested by the Managing Director

Qualifications:

  • minimum Grade XII education
  • knowledgeable in use of computers, information technology, website maintenance, and social media
  • familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook
  • familiar with Facebook and Twitter
  • working knowledge of computerized ticketing software would be an asset
  • interest in the arts
  • knowledge of Campbell River and surrounding markets
