We apologize for the inconvenience. \nWriter-director Stella Meghie takes the multigenerational family comedy into fresh new territory with Jean of the Joneses\, a whip-smart tale about the twentysomething scion of an all-female Brooklyn clan wrestling with her literary aspirations\, romantic mishaps\, and the chaotic preparations for her estranged father’s funeral. \nWriter-director Stella Meghie’s Jean of the Joneses is a smart-as-a-whip comedy concerning three generations of vibrant\, vociferous\, unforgettable women in the Brooklyn-based Jones family. \nTo say that twentysomething writer Jean (Taylour Paige) is at a crossroads would be putting it kindly — she really doesn’t know which way she’s headed. A vista of unenticing career prospects opens before her\, and her latest relationship has just unceremoniously ended. Chronically self-analyzing\, she often hangs out with her two aunts\, mother\, and grandmother Daphne (Michelle Hurst). The women constantly bicker and judge each other’s life choices\, a routine that’s interrupted when the estranged patriarch of the family literally dies on their doorstep. \nRay (Mamoudou Athie)\, the paramedic who takes their 911 call\, falls fast for the acerbic Jean. The feeling is more or less mutual\, but their potential romance will have to take a back seat to the chaos leading up to the funeral. In a series of sometimes harsh\, always-spirited discussions — fuelled by a complex family history\, a few drinks\, and the occasional toke — the women will do their best to figure themselves out\, and to understand each other. \nMeghie’s feature debut takes the multigenerational family comedy into clever new territory. The Jones women are thoughtful\, shockingly honest\, and exceptionally funny\, and Jean of the Joneses observes them all with infectious affection. Moving to a sprightly jazz soundtrack by pianist Robi Botos\, and exhibiting an irresistible energy\, this is one of the best-written and most entertaining films of the year. \nRated PG \nTickets: $12 (+ applicable taxes and fees)

SUMMARY:Band of Rascals
DESCRIPTION:Bringing genuine rock and roll back to ‘modern rock’\, Victoria BC based Band of Rascals are becoming a strong presence within the Western Canadian music scene. Since the overwhelming and supportive response to their debut self-titled EP\, Band of Rascals have been riding a surge of momentum becoming The Zone 91.3’s band of the month and selling out every home crowd show. Their first single “Give’her to the River” saw great response on radio resulting in increasingly larger venues to accommodate their audience expansion. He spends his days shovelling snow\, fixing leaks\, and doing his best to ignore the tenants’ small talk. He spends his evenings either alone in his basement apartment or nursing a beer at his local\, where he’ll pick a fight with anyone who throws a glance his way. Yet somehow we know that buried beneath this sadness is another life. \nWhen he receives the news that his older brother Joe (Kyle Chandler) has died of a congenital heart condition and that\, to his unpleasant surprise\, he’s been appointed legal guardian of Joe’s teenage son\, Patrick (Lucas Hedges)\, Lee returns to his nearby seaside hometown\, a place of both cherished and painful memories. Despite the sudden loss of his father\, and in stark contrast to his uncle\, Patrick is full of life. A popular student\, he juggles hockey\, band practice\, and two girlfriends. As this mismatched pair stumbles through the mundane details of estate planning and the awkward strain of adolescence\, Lee is forced to confront his past\, revealed seamlessly through flashbacks\, and the realities of his present. \nLonergan’s genius is rooted not in the extraordinary\, but the ordinary. A master of detail\, he uses his character’s daily surroundings and routines to create a beautifully textured reality. He turns the loose narrative structure into one of his film’s greatest strengths: rather than depend on an obvious narrative arc or dramatic set pieces\, he draws out the emotion of his text subtly and steadily.
