SUMMARY:CRFF - Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story
DESCRIPTION:Hollywood wild-child\, Hedy Lemarr\, was infamous for her marriages and affairs with everyone from Spencer Tracy to JFK. This film will rediscover her\, not only as an actress\, but as the brilliant mind who co-invented 1940’s wireless technology. \nAfter inventing the movie sex scandal\, she married a Nazi collaborator\, escaped him\, and fled to Hollywood. There she became a movie star known as “the most beautiful woman in the world.” Songs were written about her beauty\, Snow White and Cat Woman were modelled on her iconic look. She married six husbands and had affairs with everyone from Spencer Tracy to JFK. But today\, fifteen years after her death\, the world has forgotten Hedy Lamarr\, the great beauty. \nThis documentary will re-discover her\, not only as an actress\, but as a brilliant mind. It turns out “the most beautiful woman in the world” was also a secret inventor. In the midst of World War II\, she used her free time to co-invent a radio-control technology meant for 1940s-era torpedoes\, which would ultimately pave the way for secure cell phone communication\, WiFi\, Bluetooth\, and drone warfare. This is the story of what happens when an actress\, admired and ridiculed for her wild life\, is secretly a genius who changed the world. \nRated PG \nTickets: $12.00 (+applicable taxes & fees)

SUMMARY:Cris Derksen Trio
DESCRIPTION:Straight from PuSh International Performing Arts Festival in Vancouver! \nThe music of cellist and composer Cris Derksen bears the mark of a true original. Classical\, Indigenous and urban elements combine: you may get the propulsive pounding of powwow music\, the head-nodding rhythms of a hip hop track\, the metronome thumps of a techno mix\, or all three in the same song. Her instruments are loop pedals\, a drum machine and\, of course\, the cello: its melodies are plaintive but catchy\, growing in number as the song progresses. These hooks repeat like echoes\, part of a thick mixture yet distinct within it. \nHailing from North Tallcree chiefs on her father’s side and Mennonite homesteaders on her mother’s\, Derksen mixes styles like a painter mixes colours. Haunting\, often mournful\, yet somehow always celebratory\, her music speaks to her mixed heritage and answers our multicultural needs. It’s as if Derksen has voices inside her\, speaking from our nation’s past and the global present all at once. \nTickets: $29 Members\, $34 Non-Members (+applicable taxes & fees)

SUMMARY:The Sheepdogs
DESCRIPTION:The Tidemark Theatre\, in partnership with Gee Dan Productions\, is proud to present The Sheepdogs\, with special guests\, Sam Coffey & The Iron Lungs! \nHailing from Saskatoon\, three-time JUNO awarding winning artists THE SHEEPDOGS burst onto the international scene after beating out thousands of artists in 2011 to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. Since then\, The Sheepdogs have amassed six JUNO nominations\, toured worldwide and earned Platinum certification for their 2010 LP Learn and Burn. \nThe Sheepdogs’ latest self-titled LP produced by Patrick Carney (The Black Keys) debuted at #1 on the Top 200 SoundScan Chart\, garnering another GOLD record for the band. \n“Our goal is two-fold\,” Currie says. “We want to make killer albums that people really want to listen to\, but we also want to have a really reputable live show. When we come through town we want to be the hottest ticket there. Those two elements are what make a truly great rock and roll band. Really\, though\, we just want to play to anyone who is willing to give us a shot and who wants to have a good time.” \nProud purveyors of guitar-driven modern-day retro rock\, the triple Juno Award-winning Saskatoon-based quintet has expanded its sound on Changing Colours to encompass more styles and hues to enhance the Sheepdogs’ trademark beef-and-boogie twin-axe riffs\, hooks\, shuffles and long-haired aesthetic. \nSam Coffey & The Iron Lungs are a power pop band from Toronto. Formed by Coffey\, a former mechanic’s apprentice from Kitchener\, Ontario\, with it’s members collected from various Ontario small towns\, they rapidly ingratiated themselves with Toronto’s punk scene. The band released a stream of DIY singles before signing to Oakland punk/garage rock label Southpaw Records (Ty Segall\, Young Guv) for their Gates of Hell LP in 2014\, which received praise from outlets like Pitchfork\, Spin and Noisey. Touring extensively and playing with bands like Redd Kross\, Black Lips\, Screaming Females and The FLAMIN’ GROOVIES\, Sam Coffey & The Iron Lungs have become regulars in DIY venues up and down the East Coast. \nTickets: $50 (+applicable taxes & fees) On sale Friday\, November 17th at 10 am!

SUMMARY:Serena Ryder
DESCRIPTION:Serena Ryder is an artist adored by fans\, peers and critics alike which is due mainly in part to her immense raw and earnest songwriting talent and beautifully electric live performances. Over the years\, she has received numerous accolades including six prestigious Juno Awards that include: 2014 Songwriter of The Year\, 2014 Artist of The Year\, 2008 New Artist of The Year\, 2009 Adult Alternative Album of The Year (Is It O.K.) and 2010 Video of The Year (Little Bit of Red). Ryder has also seen fantastic album success over the years\, with If Your Memory Serves You Well (2007) and Is it O.K. (2009) both achieving Gold selling status. Her single “Stompa”  has also achieved 3x Platinum Certification. \nNow you can hear the further results of Ryder’s ongoing liberation from what she described in 2012 as a burdensome “idea of who I thought I was” on Utopia\, which extrapolates upon its predecessor’s “anything goes” template with even more confidence and joy. \nUtopia’s sassy soul-pop romp and lead single “Got Your Number”\, hatched spontaneously during an exploratory early writing session that found Ryder once again casting aside her guitar and “just goofing around on the drums\, just kind of rapping and rhyming and singing weird jazzy stuff” in search of new musical avenues to explore\, is but a tantalizing taste of the surprises Serena Ryder has to offer on her new record. \nThere was no grand design to Utopia. A loose theme derived from the First Nations parable of the Two Wolves – which states that we have all have two wolves inside us\, one light and one dark\, that fight for dominance as they are fed in either direction – applied itself in hindsight\, as Ryder saw those two sides of her own personality playing out in the song writing and wondered what would happen “if you fed both wolves instead of just one of them\, so that neither of them are hungry?” \n“Most of the time\, I really feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve been doing this since I was straight out of high school – touring\, writing\, performing – and I still feel like I’m brand-spankin’ new. I don’t know what kind of songs I’m going to write or what kind of record I’m going to put out. I don’t have a set-in-stone identity when it comes to being a musician. It’s a mystery\, even to me; a good one. It’s nice to be able to live within that mystery.” \nTickets: $49.50 (+applicable taxes & fees) Tickets on sale Friday December 8th at 10 am! (Online limit of 6 tickets per order)

SUMMARY:CRFF - The Leisure Seeker
DESCRIPTION:The Leisure Seeker was the nickname of the old RV used by Ella and John Spencer to go on vacation with their children in the 1970s. On a summer morning\, to escape a destiny of medical care that would keep them apart forever\, the couple leave their adult and intrusive children astonished as they board that dated vehicle for a new adventure down Old Route 1\, towards Key West. John is ditzy and absent-minded but strong\, Ella is exhausted and fragile but still very lucid\, together they seem to hardly compose a single person. Their trip through an America they no longer recognize – between hilarious moments and others of real terror – is the occasion to live again a love story nourished by passion and devotion\, but also by secret obsessions that emerge brutally\, revealing surprises up to the last instant. \nRated R \nTickets: $12.00 (+applicable taxes & fees)
