DESCRIPTION:On July 27\, 1890\, a gaunt figure stumbled down a drowsy high street at twilight in the small French country town of Auvers. The man was carrying nothing; his hands clasped to a fresh bullet wound leaking blood from his belly. \nThis was Vincent van Gogh\, then a little known artist; now the most famous artist in the world. DESCRIPTION:Alex Cuba is a Latin Grammy/Juno winner\, singer-songwriter who is not tied to tradition; Alex has a vast musical vision. His sugarcane-sweet melodies\, pop-soul hooks and powerful guitar riffs\, relinquish a conventional stereotype that exemplifies much of the Latin music landscape. Collaborating with artists such as: Nelly Furtado\, Juan Luis Guerra\, Juanes and Ron Sexsmith\, just to name a few. \nStill based in Smithers\, Alex Cuba has put together a four piece band of Ian Olmstead on Bass\, Jake Jenne on Drums and Jose Sanchez on percussion. Ian and Jake\, both from Smithers have known Alex since their high school years and Cuban expat Jose has toured previously supporting the album Agua del Pozo. SUMMARY:CRFF - The Other Side of Hope
DESCRIPTION:The Other Side of Hope tells the stories of a poker-playing restaurateur and former traveling salesman who befriend a group of refugees newly arrived to Finland. \nThe film consists of two stories that by chance intersect at the forty-minute mark. The first one is about Khaled\, a young Syrian refugee who has lost virtually all of his family. Almost by accident\, he drifts to Helsinki as a stowaway passenger on a collier to seek asylum without great hopes for his future life. \nWikström\, the other protagonist\, is a travelling salesman of about fifty (representing mainly men’s shirts and ties). In the beginning of the film he leaves his alcoholic wife and his profession and turns momentarily into a poker shark. With the small amount of money he thus gains he then buys an unprofitable restaurant at the far end of an inner court along a back street in Helsinki. \nWhen the authorities decide to return Khaled to the ruins of Aleppo he\, just like many others\, decides to stay illegally in the country and disappears into the streets of Helsinki. There he meets\, besides various types of racism\, also pure kindness. Finally Wikström finds our fellow sleeping in the inner yard of his restaurant. Perhaps he sees something of himself in the battered man because he hires Khaled as a cleaner and a dishwasher. \nRated PG; Finnish\, English\, Swedish & Arabic with English subtitles \nTickets: $12.00 (+applicable taxes & fees)

SUMMARY:The Arrogant Worms First Farewell Tour
DESCRIPTION:The year was 1991.  Presumably\, some significant world events occurred.  The world truly changed in the fall however\, when something truly magnificent happened in Kingston\, Ontario\, Canada. A beacon of hope was lit and has shone brightly ever since – The Arrogant Worms. The Arrogant Worms began as a comedy troupe performing songs and sketches on campus radio. The early feedback on the live shows was clear:  lose the sketches.  So the songs endured and they all remain because the band hates to throw anything out. \nThe songs were written to make fun of a big dumb world. Luckily\, the world is still dumb and The Arrogant Worms (Mike McCormick\, Chris Patterson and Trevor Strong) still have plenty to sing about. The shows are fast\, furious and family friendly. The wit is quick\, the satire is biting and the musicianship is second to none. DESCRIPTION:Super Hero Theatre Camp is a 4-day interactive theatre course during School District 72’s Spring Break for people ages 8 and up. This half-day camp is put on by the Tidemark Theatre Society and On the Mark Theatre. \nWhat to expect at the camp \nParticipants will have the opportunity to learn key acting techniques such as character development\, projection and memorization. Improvisational theatre skills will be used to create a short original production for family and friends to be held at the conclusion of the camp. Participants will also create an original masked character during our mask-making sessions. \nWhat is improv? \nImprovisation\, or improv\, is a form of live theatre in which the plot\, characters and dialogue of a game\, scene or story are made up in the moment. Often improvisers will take a suggestion from the audience\, or draw on some other source of inspiration to get started. \nWhat can improv help me with? \nAdvanced listening\nActive listening on and off the stage. Being in the moment and truly hearing what someone is saying. \nBuild off one another “yes\, and..”\nHow to make an idea build into something wonderful and unexpected. Supporting other people and making them look good. Making an idea “Our” idea. \nFreedom from the fear of failure \nIt’s okay to take “risks”.
