SUMMARY:Bones of Crows
DESCRIPTION:Bones of Crows is a multi-generational epic story of resilience told through the eyes of Cree Matriarch Aline Spears (played throughout her life by Summer Testawich; Secwépemc  actor Grace Dove; and Carla Rae). Removed from their family home and forced into Canada’s residential school system\, young musical prodigy Aline and her siblings are plunged into a struggle for survival. Over the next hundred years\, Aline and her descendants fight against systemic starvation\, racism\, and sexual abuse — and to build a more just future. Bones of Crows stars Secwépemc actor Grace Dove (Alaska Daily)\, Phillip Forest Lewitski (Wildhood)\, Rémy Girard (District 31)\, Karine Vanasse (Cardinal)\, Alyssa Wapanatâhk (Peter Pan)\, Michelle Thrush (Prey)\, Gail Maurice (Night Raiders)\, Cara Gee (The Expanse)\, TIFF Rising Star Joshua Odjick\, and a fantastic cast of Indigenous talent from across the country. \nThe film will be screened as part of a free Community Tour\, bringing the film to communities on Vancouver Island and the lower mainland\, ahead of its theatrical release. \nActor Kindall Charters and Production Crew Member Jerome Turner will attend the Campbell River Screening on February 2\, at the Tidemark Theatre\, 7pm. \nAdmission is free! You are encouraged to reserve your ticket in advance. \nThis programme contains scenes that may distress some viewers\, especially those who have experienced harm\, abuse\, violence\, and/or intergenerational trauma due to colonial practices. \nSupport is available 24 hours a day for anyone affected by their experience at residential schools and for those who may be triggered by content dealing with residential schools\, child abuse\, emotional trauma\, and racism. The national Indian Residential Schools Crisis Line is available at 1-866-925-4419.

SUMMARY:CRFF The Return of Tanya Tucker featuring Brandi Carlile
DESCRIPTION:Country music legend Tanya Tucker’s momentous comeback is documented in this documentary about the making of her award-winning 2019 album\, While I’m Livin’. \nWith her distinct voice\, Tucker catapulted into the musical stratosphere in 1972 at the age of 13 and remained there for the duration of the decade\, smashing stereotypes about country music along the way. By the start of the 1980s\, her recording career and chart success was eclipsed by public struggles with substance abuse and rocky relationships documented in the tabloid press\, and she eventually chose to live a more private life. \nGrammy Award–winning songwriter and musician Brandi Carlile never believed the influential Tucker received her due respect. So\, in January 2019\, she and producer Shooter Jennings managed to coax Tucker into the studio with the goal of creating her first album of original music in 17 years. \nDirector Kathlyn Horan\, aided by beautiful\, unobtrusive camerawork by Jessica Young\, skilfully immerses us into their creative process as Carlile and Tucker endeavour to mine the latter’s deep well of memory and experience to create songs worthy of Tucker’s still enthralling voice. The fascination of the film is experiencing Carlile cajoling\, protecting\, and urging Tucker\, who compensates for her obstinance\, insecurity\, and volatility with self-deprecating humour and a vulnerability only possible in the atmosphere of empathy forged by Carlile. \nThis unique documentary provides us with access and insight into the intergenerational creative rapport between two women and their complex\, intriguing\, and deeply rewarding musical partnership. \n“A fittingly down-to-earth\, memory-infused documentary that’s a gift to fans — moving\, thoroughly engaging\, and a chance to see a remarkable sexagenarian at a turning point\, doing what she does best.” –Sheri Linden\, The Hollywood Reporter \nTickets: $15 Admission (+applicable taxes and fees) \nRated R for Language

SUMMARY:CRFF The Territory
DESCRIPTION:Partially shot by the film’s subjects and filmed over the course of several years\, director Alex Pritz’s feature documentary debut follows the struggle of the\nUru-eu-wau-wau people as they defend their land from deforestation. \nToday\, there are fewer than 200 people living in the Uru-eu-wau-wau community. The Territory follows how this small group of mighty land defenders protects the sovereignty of more than 18\,000 square kilometres of rainforest from non-natives who seek to exploit it. Bitaté Uru-eu-wau-wau\, a young Indigenous leader\, and his mentor Neidinha Bandeira decide to try a new tactic to protect their land and community: they create their own news media team to reclaim their story\, risking their lives to expose the truth. \nWhat follows is an arresting look at the tireless fight of the Uru-eu-wau-wau\, and the ever-present dangers of exploitative expansion and colonialism. With its\non-the-ground approach to documenting the conflict\, the film is notably propelled from sequence to sequence with apocalyptic urgency. Featuring breathtaking cinematography of the landscape as parts of the Amazon rainforest burn\, The Territory offers insight into the precious — and precarious — ecosystems under threat\, a pulse-pounding example of film as activism that will keep audiences at the edge of their seats. \n“In just 83 minutes\, Pritz guides us through a complex story\, though at its heart it is a deceptively simple tale of underdogs fighting to protect their land and way of life.” –Katie Walsh\, The Wrap \nPortuguese \nTickets: $15 Admission (+applicable taxes and fees) \nRated PG for thematic material\, some smoking\, brief nudity and language

SUMMARY:Led Zepagain
DESCRIPTION:Jimmy Page Says\, “It’s as close as you’ll ever get to the real deal” \nThe longest-standing tribute to Led Zeppelin in the world today\, Led Zepagain captures the heart and soul of “the world’s greatest band”\, replicating the ultimate Led Zeppelin experience.  Jimmy Page says\, “It’s as close as you’ll ever get to the real deal”.  From the high-energy electric classics to the beautiful acoustic works\, you will be mesmerized as LED ZEPAGAIN resurrects Page’s soaring guitar leads\, Jones’ brilliant keyboard passages\, Bonham’s trademark pounding rhythms and the signature Robert Plant vocals.  As you experience immortal classics “Stairway to Heaven”\, “Immigrant Song”\, “Whole Lotta Love” “Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Black Dog”\, you’ll understand why Led Zepagain has become highly regarded as the most authentic representation of Led Zeppelin in the world today. \nWhen Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page attended a Led Zepagain show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles\, he was absolutely astonished\, stating: “It’s amazing how much you sound like us. You were inside the music\, and you paid attention to detail in your presentation. I can tell you really love our music!” As a result\, the band was hired by Page’s ABC Trust to play a benefit show for the children of Brazil.  Page also invited Led Zepagain to attend Led Zeppelin’s 2007 Reunion Concert at London’s O2 Arena by invitation of Mr. Page. Additionally\, the band received a surprise visit from Jason Bonham in March\, 2009 as he sat in with the band on their encore performance of “Rock and Roll”: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w6noToYSqQ. \nWith well over a million downloads on iTunes to their credit\, LED ZEPAGAIN has been featured on AXS TV’s “World’s Greatest Tribute Bands” (2014) and were asked to return\, performing the iconic Led Zeppelin album “IV” in its entirety (2017). The band has also entered pop culture\, having been mentioned on network TV shows “The Gilmore Girls”\, “Chicago Fire” and “Bad Judge”. \nThe band consists of vocalist/harmonica player Swan Montgomery (“Robert Plant”)\, guitarist/mandolinist Anthony David Thymiakos (“Jimmy Page”)\, bassist/keyboardist/mandolinist Jim Wootten (“John Paul Jones”) and welcomes Scott Brooks to the Led Zepagain family\, in the role of drummer/percussionist (“John Bonham”)\, playing to packed houses around the world. From the sound and the look to the vintage equipment and costuming\, LED ZEPAGAIN will be the closest thing that you will ever see to a live Led Zeppelin performance! Come on out and see what Jimmy Page was talking about. \nFor more about LED ZEPAGAIN please visit www.zepagain.com. \nTickets: $50 Admission (+applicable taxes & fees)
