DESCRIPTION:The Banff Mountain Film Festival began more than 35 years ago in 1976 in the small Rocky Mountain town of Banff\, Alberta. A tight-knit group of climbers and outdoor folk looked for an annual event to entertain them during the shoulder season between climbing and skiing. As the story goes\, several late night meetings and a few beers later The Banff Festival of Mountaineering Films was born. What began as a one-day festival of climbing films\, has now blossomed into a nine-day event in Banff and a year-round film tour which encompasses over 500 screenings on all continents (yes\, we go to Antarctica!). \nNow the best of Banff returns to Quadra Island! DESCRIPTION:Join acclaimed musical entertainer Matthew Krell with special guest Evan Grahek for Wintertainment: Make it a Double; an evening of two piano fun and virtuosity with a Christmas twist! The award-winning pianists will be presenting favourite works selected from the last two-hundred years of solo and duo piano literature\, in a wildly entertaining setting. \nEvan Grahek is a talent of prodigious level\, having only started piano at age twelve. By seventeen he was performing some of the most difficult repertoire written for the piano. Evan has won numerous competitions in his home state of California and has performed in many international festivals and venues in locations including Russia\, Austria\, Albania\, Croatia\, Slovakia\, Israel\, and Italy. Currently\, he maintains an active teaching studio in Los Angeles and performs regularly. \nMatthew Krell is an award-winning pianist and accomplished actor who has been engrossed in the performing arts for over fifteen years. He has been recognized in competitions\, festivals\, and masterclasses in Canada and the States. Matthew performs at many concert galas and events every semester\, often receiving audience choice awards. He has been praised for his technical capacities\, raw musicality\, comedic sensibilities\, and audience appeal. He is a sought after collaborative artist\, with over nearly 3000 hours of accompanying experience. Matthew is currently completing a triple-emphasis Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance\, Pedagogy\, and Music Composition at university in Southern California. \nTickets: $30 Adult\, $15 Student (+applicable taxes & fees)
