SUMMARY:Jeremy Ledbetter Trio at Quadra Community Centre
DESCRIPTION:Forged in a cauldron of raging\, inspiring contemporary jazz\, the Jeremy Ledbetter Trio pushes the boundaries of jazz and world music\, providing an undiluted display of rampaging energy and captivating musicianship. Audiences must exercise caution. People who see this band are rarely the same again. Jeremy Ledbetter has been creating genre-bending original music since forming the Caribbean Latin jazz outfit CaneFire in 2004. The Jeremy Ledbetter Trio sees Jeremy joined by Grammy-winning drummer Larnell Lewis of Snarky Puppy and renowned electric bassist Rich Brown\, who offer the perfect counterpart to Ledbetter’s iconoclastic energy at the piano. The Trio’s debut album “Got a Light?”\, released in 2018\, has been described as “a controlled explosion of big ideas and compelling musical storytelling”. An engaging and fiery performer whose music knows no boundaries\, Canadian pianist Jeremy Ledbetter has made a career from travelling the far-flung corners of the globe in search of the most fascinating and unique musical ideas out there\, then seamlessly integrating them into his work as a pianist\, composer\, and producer. Larnell Lewis is a Grammy Award winning musician\, composer\, producer\, and educator. A Toronto native\, Larnell has quickly established himself as one of the most diverse and in-demand drummers currently on the music scene. Rich Brown\, on bass\, has been an active member of Toronto’s culturally diverse music scene since 1992. Rich has appeared on over 60 recordings ranging from jazz to funk to Latin to traditional Asian and Arabic music. The Jeremy Ledbetter Trio is launching its new album “Gravity” on September 13\, 2024! We’re in for a treat! \nPlease visit quadraconcerts.ca for additional details. \nTickets: $20 Advance\, $25 At the Door (+applicable taxes & fees) \nQuadra Concerts is grateful to the following organizations for their generous sponsorship: Canadian Heritage and the Government of Canada\, Government of  British Columbia\, BC Arts Council\, BC Live Performance Network\, and Strathcona Regional District.

SUMMARY:Halloween One-Act Treats
DESCRIPTION:A Halloween Treat! \nPut on your costumes and other regalia and join Theatre Quadra for some Halloween fun. On stage at the Quadra Community Centre\, October 31\, November 2nd and November 3rd\, will be two delightful and humorous one-act plays: \nOnce Upon a Broomstick by Sylvia Ashby is funny enough to entertain adults and just scary enough to delight little children without frightening them. Characters include a mean witch with a soft heart\, a handsome young apprentice\, a pretty young maid and a professor who has trouble remembering how to make his incantations work. Also appearing on stage are a caterpillar\, a butterfly\, a mouse and a very important magic door. \nAND \nGuess Who’s Coming to Halloween? by Cindy Poitier. The main characters in this humorous play are an atypical family; father is a vampire\, mother a mummy and daughter a werecat. The problems start when the daughter invites her ghoulfriend over to help with Halloween. The parents don’t approve of their daughter’s friend and are not shy about expressing their dislike. The ghoulfriend can stand up for herself though\, leaving the daughter trapped in the middle. Will the excitement of Halloween make relationships better or will it require divine intervention? \nThese are family friendly shows\, most suitable children 10 years of age through adult. \nTickets: $15 Adult\, $10 Student\, $2 Child under 12 (+applicable taxes & fees)

SUMMARY:Lonesome Ace Stringband
DESCRIPTION:Masters of their trade\, The Lonesome Ace Stringband return to Rivercity Stage  bringing grit\, skill and abandon to Americana music\, bridging old-time\, bluegrass and folk traditions into a seamless hybrid of original material that is at once fresh and timeless. \nThe trio’s sound is anchored in the fiddle and clawhammer banjo of John Showman and Chris Coole. They are joined by a rotating cast of extraordinary upright bassists (including founding member Max Malone\, James Mceleney\, and Lotus Wight). The band moves freely between a sound so commanding it doesn’t seem like it should be coming from a stringband\, to a sparse fragility that draws the listener closer.  Whether singing about climate change\, modern love\, BBQ techniques or life’s inevitable existential crises\, the band cuts to the core. \nThere’s a reason why they are a smokin’ hot outfit – they’ve put in their time. In 2007\, Lonesome Ace Stringband took up residency in Toronto’s legendary Dakota Tavern\, routinely playing 10 sets of music every weekend. They went on to spend seven years as the house band before ever taking the show on the road or recording a note. Those years of musical percolation honed them into a group that thinks and plays as one – something that comes from clocking thousands of on-stage hours together.  Outside of their trio work\, each musician is a veteran of the Canadian music scene\, sought after for teaching camps\, recording sessions and touring with some of the best artists in North America. \nThey’ve released six critically-acclaimed albums of original music and new takes on timeless classics and have toured through the US\, UK\, Germany including repeat performances at festivals like Rockygrass\, Celtic Connections\, Winnipeg Folk Festival\, and Merlefest. This will be their third visit to Rivercity Stage. The previous two were sold out. If you were there\, you know why\, and if you weren’t\, don’t miss your chance this time. \nThe Highway 19 Concert Series is supported by the Province of BC through BC Arts Council and BC Live\, and the Government of Canada’s Department of Canadian Heritage. \nGeneral admission tickets are available for $20 to be affordable to anyone who wishes to attend\, or $30 help sustain this concert series. The choice is yours. Teen tickets are only $5 and tickets for kids are free when accompanied by a paying adult. \nTickets:$30/$20 Adult\, $5 Teen (ages 13-19)\, Child under 13 free with an accompanying adult (+applicable taxes and fees) \nhttps://lonesomeace.com\nwww.highway19.ca
