Big Band Jazz with Voices of the Coast

The Strathcona Big Band is a Campbell River–based jazz orchestra bringing the excitement and power of big band jazz to the stage. The ensemble performs a wide range of repertoire, from swing‑era classics to contemporary big band arrangements, featuring tight horn sections, driving rhythms, and inspired improvisation. Vocal jazz is a key part of the band’s sound, featuring local vocal talent Amy Lelliott, whose performances add warmth, character, and expressive depth to the music. Made up of talented musicians from across the region, the Strathcona Big Band delivers high‑energy concerts that celebrate jazz tradition while showcasing the vibrant voices of the Coast.

Jazz On The Rocks brings the sweet sounds of classic jazz standards to life, enhanced by the captivating and intimate voice of vocalist Marnie Younger. The group’s warm, expressive approach highlights these lovely and memorable songs from the jazz era.

Tenor saxophonist Dave Blinzinger contributes virtuosic improvisations and compelling melodic lines, while Hal Douglas on acoustic and electric guitar lays down a groove that invites creativity and spontaneity. Anchoring the group, Nick McGregor provides percussion driven by shifting rhythms and a wide range of time feels and styles. Together, Jazz On The Rocks offers an engaging and refined performance that both serenades and delights.
