Family Literacy Day with Kym Gouchie
Celebrate Family Literacy Day with an afternoon of stories, songs, and connection at the Tidemark Theatre. Join JUNO nominated and Western Canadian Music Award winning artist Kym Gouchie for a joyful, interactive performance that brings literacy, culture, and creativity together for the whole family.
Kym Gouchie is a multidisciplinary Indigenous artist from the Lheidli T’enneh Nation with Cree and Secwépemc ancestry. Her work blends storytelling, music, and visual art to support learning, curiosity, and community connection. As a mother, grandmother, and caregiver, Kym shares stories rooted in family, resilience, and cultural pride, making her performances especially meaningful for audiences of all ages.
Her award winning album Shun Beh Nats’ujeh is widely used in classrooms across the province, and her live shows carry that same spirit into the theatre. Through song, spoken word, and rhythm, Kym invites children and caregivers to explore language, listening, and imagination together in a way that is fun, accessible, and welcoming.
This special Family Literacy Day presentation is offered in partnership with the Campbell River Literacy Association and School District 72 as part of a community wide celebration of reading, storytelling, and lifelong learning.
This performance is made possible in part by Theatre Angels donations. Please consider making a donation to the Theatre Angels program.
