Jack Jackovich: From Painter to Potter

Jack’s interest in the art world has been a lifelong affair beginning with a passion for painting that persisted through his school days and twelve years in the business world.

His interest led to art school, then a degree in Art Education at UBC, majoring in painting and ceramics. Jack was actively involved in commercial galleries as well as university galleries at UBC and the University of Alberta.

In 1972 Jack received a teaching appointment at the Banff Centre where he expanded his interest in clay.  This led to further studies and a Master’s degree in Fine Art.

In the last two years, Jack has concentrated on a series of island paintings, drawing inspiration from our community and surroundings and featuring images North Island and the Discovery Islands. This theme is carried through in both his paintings and three dimensional works.

After thirty years of teaching in the school system, retirement now allows Jack to work full time in his studio, River Run Studio in Oyster River.

Jack Jackovich invites friends and former students to view a new series of paintings hanging in the Tidemark Art Gallery from September 29 – October 24.  The Tidemark Art Gallery is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 12-4 pm. Everyone is welcome.
