Lucas Myers performs Hello Baby (Quadra Community Centre)
What happens when a self-involved man-child becomes a new dad? Lucas Myers draws from personal experience to answer this burning question in his one-man show ‘Hello Baby’.
A self-described “semi-competent father”, he’s filled this show with helpful hints for other dads and dads-to-be, such as: How to safely operate a belt sander and a breast pump on two hours sleep. Sleep-deprived Myers even contemplates the big questions, like: Is your life as you know it really over?
Lucas takes on the personae of an entire cast of eclectic characters and he features his original tunes on ukulele, guitar, and miniature keyboard, including ‘What If’, ‘Nobody Warned Me ‘Bout the Drool’, and ‘Making Love to a Pregnant Woman is Easy as Pie’. You’ll laugh. You’ll find out what they don’t cover in prenatal class! Perhaps you’ll even be able to relate. This play is for anyone who is going to be a dad, is a dad, has a dad or knows a dad!
Lucas Myers is a professional actor, songwriter and playwright, who has appeared in many productions in major theatres across Canada, as well as touring internationally to Europe, New Zealand, Mexico and Central Asia. He has created theatre since his graduation from the National Theatre School in 1998. Working with Theatre SKAM in Victoria, he performed and composed music for many original plays. His interests turned to collaborative creation in 2001, when he studied with the SITI Company of New York, and then returned to the West Coast to apply their techniques with like-minded artists. Having relocated to Nelson, BC, Myers has dedicated his energy to creating a new work every year to be performed locally and toured to surrounding communities.
