National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

This National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, join us at the Tidemark Theatre for a presentation by Chief Dr. Robert Joseph, OBC, OC, hereditary chief of the Gwawaenuk Tribe, residential school survivor, author and internationally recognized leader in reconciliation.

Chief Joseph will share his experiences and reflections on truth, healing and the relationships we build together, followed by an audience Q&A.

The presentation follows a full day of community gatherings beginning at 11:00 am at Spirit Square, with a march to Kwanwatsi Big House for ceremonies, lunch, the honouring of Survivors and traditional dances.

Chief Dr. Robert Joseph, OBC, OC

KwinKwinXwaligedzi-Wakas – Chief Robert Joseph is one of the hereditary chiefs of the Gwawaenuk Tribe.  He co-founded and co-lead Reconciliation Canada from 2012 until 2020; an idea born from a vision he had of 50,000 people walking together in the spirit of unity.  A dream that came to fruition when it was said 70,000 people came together for The Walk for Reconciliation in 2013.

Chief Joseph, a recipient of Indspire’s Lifetime Achievement Award, many other awards numerous honorary doctorates, was the co-founder and former Ambassador for Reconciliation Canada and a former member of the National Assembly of First Nations Elders Council. He was an Executive Director of the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and is an honourary witness to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). As Chairman of the Native American Leadership Alliance for Peace and Reconciliation and Ambassador for Peace and Reconciliation with the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (IFWP), Chief Joseph has sat with the leaders of South Africa, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia and Washington, DC to learn from and share his understanding of faith, hope, healing and reconciliation,
