PRIDE at the Tide

The Tidemark Theatre and North Island Pride are excited to present, PRIDE at the Tide – Campbell River’s 2023 PRIDE party event!

Rose Butch, Vancouver’s Premier Non-Binary Drag Thing returns with PM – 2019 winner of Vancouver’s Next Drag Superstar – to host an incredible hybrid Pride experience. Celebrations will kick off with emcee Afton Frost and an interactive drag show, followed by a dance party with special musical guests, Queer As Funk! Join the celebration in person at the theatre, or purchase a live stream ticket and enjoy from the comfort of your home.

Queer as Funk

It started, like most good ideas, over beer and song. A few short years later, Vancouver’s Queer as Funk is renowned for its tight rhythm section, hot horns, and soulful vocals, bringing together the city’s best musicians in a dynamic, high-energy dance band. There’s nothing this tight-knit band loves more than performing together, and that love is palpable to audiences everywhere.

“There’s nowt so queer as folk”, or so the old English adage goes. Queer As Funk believes in celebrating differences, and what better way than with a big ol’ dance party?

Rose Butch

Rose Butch is the Premier Non-Binary Drag Thing. With a style and sensibility that follows the pursuit of gender euphoria, Rose has been a staple of Vancouver’s performance art scene since their debut in 2014. Their playful and theatrically-informed drag has brought non-binary visibility to stages across Vancouver and beyond – winning crowns in bar pageants, gracing the pages of art magazines, and as the subject of an episode of CBC Gem’s docuseries Canada’s A Drag. Rose is a member of The Darlings, an award-winning multi-disciplinary drag collective, and is a core cast member of Vancouver’s long running drag show, Man Up.

PM

PM is Vancouver’s non-binary dancing drag bimbo. Mixing both their contemporary-ballet background and off-beat style, P.M’s goal is to continually bend gender and sexuality while jump splitting and front flipping. They are 100% a winner, claiming the crown in 2019 of Vancouver’s Next Drag Superstar! They are 1/4 of The Darlings drag collective; a multi-disciplinary non-binary drag quartet in Vancouver. They are also a founding member of the weekly show Enby 6 @ The Junction every Thursday. PM also performs and hosts many events such as: Late Night Snack, The Larry & Pum Pum Show & Na$ty Gurlz.

Afton Frost

Afton’s lifelong passion for social justice, feminism, and advocacy led her to join North Island Pride Society in 2017. She loves that it allows her to interact with youth, meet other queer folks, and help build within her community! North Island Pride Society was once coined “the little Pride that could” and Afton believes in that with her whole being. Afton’s goals as a member of the Pride Society are to not only help put on The Best Pride Ever each year, but to continually add to its resource network and further cement its status as a valuable community tool within the North Island. When not dismantling oppressive societal structures, she enjoys burlesque, cooking, foraging, backcountry hiking, and spending time with her amazing kid and 4 rescue pets.
