Rachel Therrien Latin Jazz Project
Highway 19 Concerts presents an evening of hot Cuban jazz led by renowned French Canadian trumpeter, composer and producer Rachel Therrien. Before the show Dance with Roudi & Vero will offer Latin dance lessons as an add-on to the concert ticket.
Working between New York City and Montreal, Rachel Therrien has developed a reputation as a highly-skilled, versatile and innovative artist, recognized for her personal touch and her many influences from traditional jazz to Afro-Latin and global music. She has six albums to her own name picking up ADISQ and Juno nominations and four-star reviews from Downbeat Magazine.
In addition to her own groups, she performs in various projects such as Arturo O’Farrill’s Grammy winning Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, and the The Ostara Project, spear-headed by award-winning jazz musicians Jodi Proznick and Amanda Tosoff, the Diva Jazz Orchestra, NYC based People of Earth, and many more. She also plays a key role in the Montreal Jazz scene, opening its borders and inspiring emerging musicians. She founded the “Montreal Jazz Composers Series” that led more than 200 American and Canadian composers to perform their original music and collaborate at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
Therrien Therrien studied jazz at the Université de Montréal, and later the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana as well as the Banff Centre. She has performed her music at festivals, theaters and jazz clubs throughout the Americas, Europe and the Caribbean, including Juan Les Pins Jazz Festival in France, Kremenchuk Jazz Festival in Ukraine, Polanco Jazz Festival in Mexico City, Havana Jazz Festival in Cuba, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and 55 Barin New York, Andy’s Jazz Club in Chicago, as well as most major Canadian Jazz Festivals.
