Still Standing with Ukraine

The Comox Valley Ukrainian Cultural Society and The Ukraine Nightingale Project are thrilled to present some of Calgary’s finest Ukrainian performers in concert – Tryzub Junior Ukrainian Dance Troupe along with acclaimed singer, Ihor Bohdan.

All proceeds from this performance will be used to assist Ukrainian families rebuilding their lives in the Comox Valley, Campbell River, and South Okanagan, and provide an opportunity for the community to come together to show that we still stand with Ukraine.

Tryzub Ukrainian Dance Society of Calgary has been preserving and promoting the dynamic art of Ukrainian Dance for over 25 years. Tryzub’s dance ensembles bring to life the beauty and colour of Ukrainian dance to audiences near and far. Through their dedication and commitment to excellence, the members of Tryzub Ukrainian Dance Ensemble continue to reach new levels of technical and artistic abilities.

To meet the needs of the newly arriving Ukrainian newcomers to Calgary, in 2023, Tryzub created a new Saturday morning dance program. They now have a total of 50 students on visas dancing with Tryzub. The Society offers financial support for newcomer families including tuition, costumes and costume maintenance fees, studio rent, festival and registration fees, and tickets for families to attend their children’s performances. Tryzub will receive a contribution of 15% of the net proceeds of the Comox Valley and Campbell River performances to support their newcomer program.

Ihor Bohdan, a merited artist of Ukraine, completed his studies at the Theatrical university in Kiev. With 45 years of professional work on the stage, Ihor has extensively travelled internationally performing for crowds all over. Ihor performs many benefit concerts for underprivileged and sick children, hospitals, as well as for the army in Ukraine.

In the Comox Valley and Campbell River, there is a continued need for food security, housing security, emergency financial assistance, employment and educational support, and to promote physical, mental and emotional well-being.

In the South Okanagan, proceeds will go to support the Ukraine Nightingale Project’s Future Ready Skills Training initiative. In Calgary, proceeds will support Ukrainian students to participate in a full dance program with the Tryzub dance school.

It is our hope that this presentation of traditional Ukrainian dances and songs will also raise awareness of the importance of the need for ongoing local support for Ukrainian families displaced by the continued conflict in Ukraine.
