CRFF Local’s Showcase
Come enjoy the creative works of local filmmakers! This night will feature a series of short films from a variety of genres that are filmed by filmmakers from the northern Vancouver Island region. You’ll be surprised to discover the professional skills and local stories featured in these films. There will be opportunities to chat with the various filmmakers in attendance.

Galloping Goose Adventures (1 min)

Juan the goose found out about the bike counter on the galloping goose trail. He didn’t like it. The goose band is his plan to divert the bikers.

After an unsuccessful suicide attempt, a man tries to find closure while trapped in a coffin.

“Safe Zone: a Zombie Film” is a co-production between the students of the Carihi Secondary Media program and the students and staff of Sayward Elementary school. The film was shot on location at Sayward Elementary in October 2025.

When a North Island arts council gets a grant for locals to construct “installations” on the side of the road… chaos ensues… leaving one artist with more questions than answers about art, public space and freedom of expression. This is a film that follows that story, all the way from the side of the road on the top of Vancouver Island, to the Vancouver Art Gallery…

Raining Glory: Campbell River by Night (3.5 min)
Filmaker: Neall Calvert
“Raining Glory” is a 3.5-minute video featuring 40 images of Campbell River taken after midnight, during rainstorms, through the front windshield of a vehicle. It is set to a music score titled “The Light Between Us.”
Christie Residential School Gathering (10.48 min)
Filmaker: Gord Kurbis
Survivors of the former Christie Residential School returned to Meares Island in October of 2025 to attend a ‘Healing Gathering’. The event was held so they could witness the emotional demolition of the final buildings used by the troubled educational institution.
